Saxlund were chosen by JN Bentley to design, manufacture, and install a dewatered sludge cake truck loading silo and infeed chain conveyor for the Coalport Sewage Treatment Works near Birmingham.
With the small silo diameter it we would usually fabricate the silo in the factory, however due to the restricted access to site the silo shell was constructed from bolted glass coated steel panels. This enabled the silo shell to be built up on site.
The truck loading silo is fed by a Saxlund elevating chain conveyor, and is discharged by the Sliding Frame which is fitted onto the baseplate of the flat bottomed silo supported high above the ground. The Saxlund Sliding Frame reciprocates across the silo floor promoting mass flow and discharges the sludge cake into a screw conveyor. The screw conveyor conveys the material towards the outlet and discharges through a hydraulically operated slide gate valve and into the truck waiting below.
